My desire in this month’s letter is to impart a very specific gift. My use of the word impart is very intentional because this gift that I am seeking to give will require some effort on your part to open the package and begin to embrace the implications to your own spiritual benefit. I pray that the “spirit of wisdom and insight” will be your portion as you read this letter. If you will take the courage to respond, my gift will be imparted. It can be yours in a similar manner as it is now mine.

Here is my personal gift to each of you: Truth is most often negative in its first appearance. When we first see something, our initial reaction is negative. We resist and question. My own spiritual mentor repeatedly wrote this Kingdom principle on my heart and mind. It has literally saved my life and marriage – spiritual and physical. This one principle has enabled me to “sell it all and buy the field.” Repeatedly, it has provided the freedom to trade my valuable pearl for that pearl of greater value.

This gift to you is the only known antidote to the ubiquitous presence of illusion. The word illusion does not mean that it is not there. It signifies that what we thought, emotionally believed was true, real, authentic was simply an illusion: darkness presenting itself as Light. To illustrate: Truth (capital T) is the Person of Christ who has come for the purpose of breaking our illusion and exposing the fallen mindset. Because of His Love for us, He is determined to bring us into that Kingdom reality where we are less naïve, falsely culpable, and increasingly open to see and understand life, spirituality, and reality in a fresh and distinctive manner.

I am no longer shocked that my own idiosyncratic forms of illusion have been demanding, tyrannical, and perhaps have even formed themselves into some form of a mental, emotional prison. Truth is most often received in a negative mode when it first appears for the simple reason that our illusion and darkness have actually owned us. We have, without being conscious, lived under their authority (Col. 1:12-13). Oh, the shock of discovering my own stubbornness has kept me imprisoned. We continue into life, business, romance, relational interchange, marriage, etc. out of a false posture, inadequate foundation. Quoting more Scripture, as we already understand it, does not and will not cure illusion or penetrate the darkness!

If you have the courage, open the package in which this gift has been wrapped. Read the Message Translation of John 8:29-32. Read it slowly and carefully, looking for my personal gift in the passage. See that the leaders of the nation of Israel are in total illusion regarding the fact that they have never been slaves of anyone. Roman soldiers may have been holding the torch light for them to read! Jesus gives them the same gift that I have sought to impart to you: My message has not yet penetrated your thinking.

“The One who sent me stays with me. He doesn’t abandon me. He sees how much joy I take in pleasing him.” When He put it in these terms, many people decided to believe. Then Jesus turned to the Jews who had claimed to believe in him. “If you stick with this, living out what I tell you, you are my disciples for sure. Then you will experience for yourselves the truth, and the truth will free you.”

You are greatly loved, honored and blessed. Talk to us about how and in what manner you have discovered and been using your new gift! We really are eager to hear.
