Take the Elevator
In this Plumbline, LeRoy Dugan shows us that sanctification means “set apart for God.” The prerequisite for sanctification is conversion. It is something which God does for saints, not sinners. Dugan says that we often get the holiness cart before the conversion horse and that sanctification is only possible because it is a work of God.
There are two purposes for sanctification: to be holy and to be perfect. God exists for the purpose of demonstrating unbiased love and He aims to produce Christians who will do the same.
There is no way to reach sanctification by climbing. However, if, spiritually, we look for an Elevator, the story is quite different. God’s Elevator of sanctification is 1 Thessalonians 5:23, “the very God of peace sanctify you wholly….” God is the Elevator to sanctification. Will we allow Him to take us all the way to the top—and be preserved blameless?
